Tagged him 96, then 123, then 20 and  got the kill with lets say 30 damage from an AR.
96 + 123 + 20 = 239

How did he survive the second and third shots?
Ok let me expand on what I am saying...

So lets assume that the player has 100 shield and 50 hp.

From the first shot which was for 96 he would be on 4 shield

Then from the second shot I think the game isn't smart enough to register the fact he is only on 4 shield but you dealt 123 damage so instead of taking away the shield and applying 119 damage to him the game deducts it from the shield value so now he is on 50 hp

You shoot him for 20 and then Squidward finishes him off with 30 damage.

That is what I think happened in that scenario

thats not how fortnite works ...

what it looks like, is when you hit someone for 96 damage, it was the guy who you already downed from the beginning, since he falls in front of the alive guy. By that time, dealing 96 damage to the downed guy probably should have elim'd the him, but I'm pretty sure you tagged half of your shot onto the downed guy, and half onto the guy that was still alive at the back, and the game only showed it in 1 damage counter

It was only a theory Tongue
according to the trajectory of r = pi r2 the damage counter didn’t register on the .dll thus creating a hole in the space time hyperbolic time chamber with the damage but if we substitute 30 for x then we get a combined result of 98 and then you divide that by 2 so the ar only did 49 damage
your 1st shotty shot collated for 96 dmg. you hit them both.
might of hit the other one
but the other guy was downed, why was the number blue indicating i hit a shield

He down by fall damage?
is right, you hit an alive person with shield and a downed guy, instead of giving you two different damage icons it gave you one combined with a blue number. it's dumb but that's what happened. x
