Basecomms Perm Muting Players - Forgotten - 14-05-2017

Basecomms seems to be permanently muting people for no reason, I spoke to ev0 about it and it only showed up as a session mute but it shows up as permanent for players and for admins using /admin.

Perm mutes specific people it seems. Usually 2-3 people per map change

at the start of one of the maps almost every t was muted

Is this new?

SourceBans was updated 3 days ago (which includes SourceComms):
https://www.invexgaming.com.au/showthread.php?tid=6839

The reason 'Muted through BaseComm natives' means another plugin is doing the muting.

Since the SourceBans update, only the following have chanded:
- New SM gamedata (to fix CSGO update)
- New RG

Neither of which should have affected muting.
I'll need to track down the cause in some way.

If I remember correctly, all the players that were perm muted had numbers/weird characters in them.

For example: collector's name has a 0 in it in-game (c0lectOrrrrrrr - ingame name)
Another persons name that was getting perm muted was c1ove
And then there was ⓜⓡ.ⓚⓡⓐⓑⓢ with that weird name.

Don't know if having numbers/weird characters in your name would effect it but yeah.

Its odd that this happened recently and not 3 days ago when sourcecomms was updated.

Anyway I wen't through WardenTools and made some updates:

However, I don't think it will fix this specific issue. (But it possible might).

My next approach is going to be going through every plugin that mutes at all and adding a little log message to them.
Then I can match up the times of the mute and get an idea which plugin is actually responsible.

Plugins we run using basecomms 'mute' functionality:
  • smac_cvars
  • sbpp_comms (this is sourcebans sourcecomms)
  • wardentalk2 (this was just improved/merged into wardentools and is no longer a used plugin)
  • basecomm (this is a standard sourcemod plugin, the bug won't be caused by this)

I asked a player if they could reconnect with the mute on them, they did that and after reconnection they are still muted.
