It can be a bit hard to see at times though that was happening with the other beams as well so no real issue.

Okay so I can share some of the thought behind them.
They add another VIP feature which is good. Its simply a cosmetic change so it doesn't affect gameplay.
There are no bugs except you have to rejoin once/wait for map change after particle file is modified then it works forever, pretty minor issue which is also on surf.
I know some non-VIP's will not like it but this is meant to be a perk for VIP.
As for the size of the beams, they were recently all changed to be the same size in latest update: https://www.invexgaming.com.au/showthread.php?tid=6225
