Image Proxy |
Invex gaming now uses a image proxy server for all images shown on the website. What is an image proxy? Usually a browser will put a link to an image in the HTML source like https://i.imgur.com/eIDg06b.jpg. Your browser then sends a request to that server (i.imgur.com) and retrieves the image. This means that your IP was made available to the remote server. If a malicious user used their own server with their own hosted image or using a service like iplogger.org, they could easily get your IP just by you visiting the forums and looking at an image in a post or in a signature. With the image proxy, all images are processed by the Invex web server. An example link of https://www.invexgaming.com.au/image-pro...392e676966 The actual image is hosted at Imgur but the Invex image proxy is what serves you the image. This means now that instead of your IP, the Invex web server IP is sent to the server thus protecting your IP from leaking. But doesn't that mean that the Invex IP is leaked? Website can be DDOSed? With the image proxy changes, the Invex IP is leaked as now the Invex server is the one fetching the image. For that reason, starting immediately, only images from whitelisted domains will be shown on Invex Gaming. For all old threads/posts, non-whitelisted domain images will show up as an error and won't be displayed, here is an example for the image url 'https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/mediawiki/images/5/5e/Bard_concept_art.jpg': As 'ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com' is not a whitelisted domain, it will not be shown. For all new threads/posts, you will receive errors when trying to add an image that is not trusted: The image URL is also hidden from all users except the posting user who can see the original link by editing their thread/signature. How can I fix such errors? Two solutions exist. The first solution is to reupload the image you want to use in your post/signature to a whitelisted domain. The second solution is to suggest the relevant domain be added to the whitelist. Current Whitelist
