Hello Invex users and fellow spergs. This is my last post on here before I get shipped off to kill Cooper's family so I thought I'd make a suggestion that gives the Invex Staff more work than they need (JB never out PepeLaugh).
Once upon a time when the majority of the community were escaping the womb, there was a thing called chat rooms. Specifically, in this case, I'm talking about IRC chat rooms (Internet Relay Chat). If you used 4chan or 8chan prior to 2010 you have probably encountered the term or joined one of these, they are essentially an anonymous chatroom containing channels with a set topic. What set these apart from other chat rooms was that they are majority terminal based in the way of clients, are open source and customisable and are very east to encrypt on the client-side using plugins. These were commonly used as a way for people to communicate with no risk with almost anyone online, and if hosted on a VPS it eliminated the risk of it being used as an access point for someone backdooring your pc and killing your GPU with anon's homebrew bitcoin miner. While these are generally not used nowadays due to the abundance of online forums and messaging applications such as Discord it still remains the best method for (nearly) untraceable communication between parties on the internet.
Quote:TL;DR Blah Blah IRC is hacker chat kekw
Here's where the suggestion begins
Irc chat can be integrated into source games using plugins when hosted on the same server instance, this blends the game chat with the IRC chatroom and allows you to talk to people in-game through the chatroom and vice-versa. I suggest trialling using an IRC chat separate to the server and seeing whether people are interested in using it in the short term as a way to communicate without spamming shoutbox Sethstu . I know I would use it just for the sake of nostalgia, if this is accepted as a suggestion I can upload a tutorial on how to use IRC clients and how to maintain personal security while using them.
Suggestions for setting up the IRC:
Make it members only with a password that is given in the member's section, stops users from other communities attempting malicious actions.
Use a bot to filter out potentially harmful links (anything but Imgur and Youtube/Twitch and the forums)
Link it to the server if it gains traction and add a command to mute it in-game/only allow seeing it while dead (adds some entertainment when dead in a round)
Hopefully, this has been somewhat informative for the younger folks and a blast from the past for the boomers here.
Sincerely, a government employee who does not want to get in trouble for saying the n-word online.
