I believe that we should have an option to change beam size small,medium and large. Small being the ones we have now then bigger and bigger.

This would be pretty time consuming to do as you can't dynamically change the size of the particle beams.
The current beams are all standardised to 40 units tall and 40 units wide. We will keep them this way so they are as close as possible to the plain beams. The size is also good for visibility.
